BYU-Idaho second in ranking of top Christian colleges

REXBURG — Brigham Young University–Idaho ranked second in the top 30 conservative Christian colleges and universities of 2017-2018, according to Online Christian Colleges.

Online Christian Colleges is a website that ranks Christian colleges around the world. In this instance schools were ranked by a point system according to tuition, student-to-faculty ratio, Christian-related activities, coursework graduation requirements and national recognition. BYU-Idaho scored 26.5 out of 35 possible points, ranking one spot above Brigham Young University, with 26 points, and one spot below first-place Grove City College, with 27 points.

BYU–Idaho ranks well with the requirements of the organization’s ranking system, such as required Christian coursework for graduation.

According to, “Brigham Young University–Idaho requires 14 credit hours of religious studies for graduation with an undergraduate degree.”

Tuition for BYU–Idaho is also one of the cheapest in the country, according to

“By keeping the cost low, classrooms small, and hiring teachers to teach and mentor students rather than publish research, BYU–Idaho offers its students a high-value education,” said Brett Crandall, media relations manager at BYU–Idaho.

Online Christian Colleges’ focus is to rank the top Christian schools in order to help students find the most affordable online colleges.

They denote that Christian schools are beneficial to students. According to their website, “Christian schools are usually service-oriented with various volunteer and leadership activities that can truly boost the quality of students’ resumes.”

BYU–Idaho offers students an array of service activities, volunteer opportunities and leadership opportunities, according to their website.

BYU–Idaho’s mission statement is “to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the church, and their communities.”

“It is clear, BYU–Idaho strives to help its students to be more Christlike. I don’t know what is more Christian than that,” Crandall said.
